LaRue says some of her pieces are meant to be darkly humerous. 

"There's a fine line (between) making fun of something and using humor to help deliver a message," she reports to the Ventura County Star. 

"If I have to embrace dark, scary things in the world, I can do it more readily when I can add a dash of humor."

"I have my agenda, of course, but I try to build pieces with enough ambiguity that viewers could read into it how they want."
